CSL Dota Top 10 Power Ranks

1. California State Polytechnic University, Pomona

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (8 - 0) sits on the throne as the number one team this season. Like the four schools before The CPP Broncos, this team has not surrendered a single match to their opposition. What makes The Broncos number one? The Broncos swept their respective series against the University of California, Los Angeles (4 - 2) and against the University of California, Berkeley (6 - 3) - both victims of California State Polytechnic University played in last year’s playoffs. In addition to beating playoff teams, the two other schools unfortunate enough to find themselves up against the Broncos are veterans from the last CSL season. The experienced opponents the Broncos have lain waste to so far this season have solidified California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as the number one school in the Power Rankings.

2. École de Technologie Supérieure

École de Technologie Supérieure (8 - 0) has already bested Carnegie Mellon University (6 - 3) and the University of Pittsburgh’s Pitt Lords (4 - 5), two teams that did battle in last season’s playoffs. Because of this impressive feat, École de Technologie Supérieure is off to a strong start and has earned second place in the Power Rankings.

3. The University of Wisconsin - Madison

University of Wisconsin - Madison’s (8 - 0) flawless victories over the University of Illinois at Chicago (5 - 5) and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Wolverines (4 - 4) are evidence that UW-Madison has what it takes to make the playoffs. The other victories are just icing on the cake for UW-Madison, who have already beaten two of last year’s playoff contenders.

4. The University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia (8 - 0) - the current Grand Champions - earn their spot at number four on the Power Rankings because of their undefeated start to the season. UBC rests above The University Of Texas at Austin because of their history of dominance in the CSL. UBC’s victories so far have been decisive, but their opponents have yet to prove themselves the same way UBC has.

5. The University of Texas at Austin

The University of Texas at Austin’s (8 - 0) inability to lose has rewarded them with the fifth spot on the Power Rankings. If you want to check out how quick Team Texas is able to get down and dirty with their opposition, their massacre of Kansas State University can be found on our Twitch Channel. The schools that Team Texas have displayed their prowess against are not as well decorated as some of the other undefeated school’s respective opposition, but the finesse and efficacy of Team Texas’s play is deserving of admiration.

6. Rochester Institute of Technology

Rochester Institute of Technology (8 - 1) has only let a single game slip away from them during their warpath this season. Dropping a game to the State University of New York - Stony Brook University (5 - 4) but taking the overall series, RIT has a well-deserved place in the Power Rankings.

7. McMaster University

McMaster University’s (6 - 1) dominance against all of their opponents is the cause for their presence in the Power Rankings. McMaster has yet to play their fourth series but also has yet to experience a second loss. The University of Toronto (5 - 2) proved that McMaster is not invincible, but was unable to finish the job and McMaster took the series.

8. Georgia Institute of Technology

Georgia Institute of Technology (7-2) plays in the East 1 group, the most scrappy group this season. Three other teams are currently tied for first with a score of 3 - 1: University of Central Florida (6 - 3), Marietta College (6 - 2), and University of Georgia (6 - 2). None of these contenders have a record as clean as Georgia Tech’s and that is what has earned Georgia Tech a place in the Power Rankings.

9. Mcgill University

McGill (7-2) is competing with McMaster University (6 - 1) and the University of Waterloo (6 - 3) for the top-three seating in the North Division. Mcgill’s nearly spotless 7 to 2 record is evidence that they belong in the Power Rankings. Mcgill lost their series to McMaster but has yet to taste defeat anywhere else.

10. Rutgers University

Rutgers University (7-3) is currently second in the East 2 Division and that is why they are number 10 in the Power Rankings. Sitting behind École de Technologie Supérieure (8 - 0), Rutgers is a serious contender for playoffs. The RU Bus Drivers lost a game against Lehigh University (5 - 6) but still took the series. Carnegie Mellon University (6 -3) managed to win over Rutgers University, but not without Rutgers tieing up the series before game 3. A recent interview with Rutgers University sheds some light on a team that has achieved a post on the Power Rankings.
